Trump Funk Blues
Election done
Chaos won
Reality dawns
Fantasy gone
Awe erased
Shock in place
Funk—Funk—Trump Funk
Nation united
Stands divided
Half elated
Half deflated
Emotion run rife
World pays the price
Facing our sentence
Four years penance
Funk—Funk—Trump Funk
Donald throned
Democrats moan
Rhetoric vile
Now fake smiles
Hillary concedes
Platitudes weaves
Obama genteel
Ire concealed
Funk—Funk—Trump Funk
Enough reeling
Time for healing
Through foul weather
Come together
End derision
Find clear vision
Create a new day
The American way
Ball in Trump’s court
Time clock starts
Remember our veterans today and thank them for their service!
Accountability
Taking responsibility used to be
A non-negotiable “given”,
Not some monumental accomplishment
Beyond our reach.Unfortunately, society has turned
Passing the buck and
Pointing the finger at the other guy
Into a true art form.Recognizing and fixing one’s foibles
Has become passé.Having a good life is something
We should all expect
To create for ourselves
Through individual initiative
And to retool as necessary
When things don’t go
According to plan.Blaming, suing,
Taking advantage of
Or harming others
To get what we think we deserve,
But perhaps have not yet earned,
Simply should be
Unacceptable.Inspired By Daily Prompt: Irksome

HERE AND NOW:
I am fortunate
To have free time
To put pen to paper
I am thankful
My mind is still intact
As I inch closer to my
Seventh decade of life
I am happy
To have an outlet for
My creative endeavors
I am humbled
To share my thoughts
And images
With others
I am hopeful
New ideas
Will keep coming
I am excited
To see the arrival of
The first hummingbird

You can run but you can’t hide
With terrorist threats far and wideA night on the town, a trip to the mall
Who knows the next victims tragedy befallsFear is festering away inside
Slowly eating our souls aliveWith each attack humanity dims
Creating for youth a future grimHow much more blood must be shed
Before we purge the streets of red?The time has come to heed the call
Across all nations large and smallTo come together at last as one
Proclaiming no more violence be doneWithin lies love of such great power
All evil it can compel to cowerBut as for now we’re along for the ride
For you can run but you can’t hide
From hearts wherein hate still resides
