Accountability

Scan0256

Taking responsibility used to be
A non-negotiable “given”,
Not some monumental accomplishment
Beyond our reach.

Unfortunately, society has turned
Passing the buck and
Pointing the finger at the other guy
Into a true art form.

Recognizing and fixing one’s foibles
Has become passé.

Having a good life is something
We should all expect
To create for ourselves
Through individual initiative
And to retool as necessary
When things don’t go
According to plan.

Blaming, suing,
Taking advantage of
Or harming others
To get what we think we deserve,
But perhaps have not yet earned,
Simply should be
Unacceptable.

Daily Prompt – Tiny

dsc_0040

Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in
the world, weighing only about as much
as a nickel.

Because of their tiny size, hummingbirds
approach the physical limits of existence
for warm-blooded animals.

Hummingbirds can hover, fly backwards,
forwards, and even briefly fly upside down.

A hummingbird’s resting heart rate is 250 bpm.
When hovering, their heart rate can reach
1,300 bpm.

They consume nectar as well as small, soft
insects for protein.

Hummingbirds may visit up to 3,000 flowers
per day in search of life sustaining nectar.
