    • This photo is from Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. They have an ongoing program to clear dead trees and brush to help reduce the chances of catastrophic fires. It is a mammoth undertaking, as so many trees were lost to pine bark beetles in the last decade.
      In my home state of Nebraska, farmers periodically use controlled burns to clear invasive plants and rejuvenate the land.

    • Yes, we have a nation wide program run by each state to achieve the same, something our two nations have in common, sadly. I note that when things get desperate there’s an interchange between our firefighter groups where we help each other by sending teams to help when it gets really desperate. I keep hoping it never happens but the last couple of years we had some very bad ones.
